Many people’s experiences of Oxford Street are based around the loud late-night clubs mixed with a certain sense of squalor. Name This Bar has managed to create a small bar version that captures the area’s reputation. Early evenings, it is a peaceful place to grab a drink. But a little later, a DJ kicks in, and this bar turns into mini-club/pub. It’s dark, loud and the bar gets swamped. Unlike many nearby small bars, it lacks elegance (Foley Lane), coolness (Pocket and Ching-a-lings) or dive-bar status (The Flinders). Perhaps that’s why it is often crowded: people are just looking for a place to hang out.
*The official title of the venue is 'Name This Bar', but often people refer to it as 'The bar with no name'.
In brief: Name This Bar (closed)Best things: Some interesting and creative decorations Ideal for: Small groups Date tip: Front window couch area, next to DJ. Plan to move to another bar later in the evening as the bar’s mood will change. Gripe: cocktails that are too sweet, ear-splitting music later on. Rating:5/10
